The Hydrology Section of the Water Resources Management Division is the Section that is responsible for the monitoring and assessment of surface water and rainfall levels throughout the Solomon Islands. The Section carries out this function through the installation of rain gauges and river and stream flow measuring equipment throughout the country. The Section also maintains a national Hydrological Monitoring Network and together, these monitoring systems and their data are used to guide decisions regarding the sourcing of water supplies for livelihood and commercial purposes and for the mitigation of water related natural hazards.
Groundwater investigations, monitoring and assessments on the other hand, is the responsibility of the Water Resources Management Division’s Hydrogeology Section.
