The Ministry is responsible for the following Statutory Authorities that deal directly with Solomon Islands extractive industries, energy and water sectors:

It is the focal point of contact of regional and international conventions, treaties and programs that are relevant to the functions of the Ministry including:
- The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- UN Convention on the Law of the Sea
- Nuclear Test Ban Treaty
- Montreal Protocol and its Subsequent Amendments
- Pacific Islands Framework for Energy Security in the Pacific
- Secretariat of the Pacific Community
- Scaling up Renewable Energy Program (SREP) under the World Bank administered Climate Investment Fund (CIF)
- SIDS DOCK Programs
- International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)
Solomon Islands Government policies in the mines, energy and water sectors incorporate the concerns of the Acts of Parliament and regional and international conventions, treaties and programs and that guide the Ministry’s work.
